An Affair of the Heart is this weekend. For the uninitiated, this bi-annual craft show at State Fair Park is one of the largest in the Southwest, featuring more than 800 exhibitors from 30+ states displaying antiques, collectibles and other crafty offerings. Patrons will be flocking by the droves, but An Affair of the Heart isn't the only way to stay busy this weekend. Below are a few suggestions for other activities that will help keep the whole family happily occupied in OKC.
If you're interested in the polar opposite of An Affair of the Heart, check out the 2014 Cinch United States Team Roping Championship National Finals. It doesn't get much further from a craft show than cowboys and team roping. Lucky for you, you won't have to go far to enjoy the show, since it's happening at the Ron Norick Arena at State Fair Park. The fun starts this Saturday. Click here for details. And if you'd like more authentic Western fun, Stockyards City is a quick 5 minute drive from State Fair Park and has great Western wear shopping and plenty of red meat at Cattlemen's Steakhouse.
Looking for something to do with the kiddos? Check out Pumpkinville at the Myriad Botanical Gardens downtown. With 3,000 pumpkins, a gaggle of scarecrows, straw creatures, gorgeous mums and lots of children's activities, it's a perfect way to spend a fall day with family. It's a 10 minute drive from State Fair Park and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun. - Thurs. and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Another great fall family event to check out is the OKC Halloween Parade starting at 7pm this Saturday along Broadway Ave. from 4th to 13th St. Floats, marching bands, unique cars and walking entries will fill Broadway for what's being billed as a celebration of the arts and creativity. Click here for more details. And while you're making plans, fans of An Affair of the Heart will want to plan a return trip to OKC for Mistletoe Market 2014 November 6-8 at the Cox Convention Center. It's a three-day, one stop holiday shopping extravaganza with merchandise from more than 100 carefully selected vendors from Oklahoma and across the country. You can shop for clothing, gourmet foods, gifts, children's items, jewelry and more.
