Speaker in the City: Carrie Fisher

Speaker in the City: Carrie Fisher

The Junior League of Oklahoma City welcomes actress and writer, Carrie Fisher, as the keynote for Speaker in the City, taking place on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 7 p.m., at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City. All proceeds from this event, and a VIP event immediately following, will be reinvested locally, expressly designated to improve the health and wellness of our Oklahoma City community.

Fisher, popularly known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars Trilogy, has taken a groundbreaking and very public stance on mental illness. According to the National Alliance on Mental Health, 1 in 4 adults experience mental illness in a given year. Despite the high frequency of cases, negative attitudes about mental illness continue to discourage people from seeking help. Fisher's public admission of her bipolar disease has paved the way for people to learn about the little understood disease. She’s given honest testimonies of the trials and triumphs of battling addiction and bipolar disorder, displaying a no-holds-barred attitude when it comes to discussing the realities of mental health conditions.

The event will be a question and answer format. All questions will be pre-submitted through the Junior League of Oklahoma City’s website. Please visit in order to submit your question today.
