The exhibition includes covers of Western paperbacks, which display imaginative creations by artisans such as Robert Stanley, George Gross, Tom Ryan, Stanley Borack, Frank McCarthy, and A. Leslie Ross. The image of the American cowboy has graced book covers in a variety of scenarios, and whatever the circumstance, Western paperback book illustrators constantly tried to create the stirring, and at times violent representations of these characters. The cowboy cover model might be a struggling hero trying to correct the injustices of the West, or a rescuer of the beautiful damsel in distress, or maybe he is the desperate outlaw who will either turn around his bad man ways, or succumb to the dark realms that rest deep in his heart. This exhibition is organized by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
