Jim Thorpe Native American Games

As the Red Earth Festival winds down, an exciting week of athletic competition will begin
with the Opening Ceremony of the Second Annual Jim Thorpe Native American Games on
Sunday evening June 9 at Remington Park. The Opening Ceremony includes a Parade of
Nations, Children's Activities, art vendors, Zumba fitness classes, stickball exhibitions and a
fireworks display to fi nish off the evening's events.

More than 2,000 Native American athletes from across the United States and representing
70 different tribes will gather in the spirit of Oklahoma's own Jim Thorpe proclaimed the
"World's Greatest Athlete" after his record setting performance at the 1912 Olympics.

The athletes will participate in 10 different sports in Olympic style competition at venues
throughout Oklahoma City and Shawnee. The events include basketball, softball, golf, tennis,
track and field, cross country, martial arts, wrestling, stickball and beach volleyball.

The Native American Games will also include an All-Star Football Game on Friday, June 14
with teams made of Oklahoma high school seniors. Visit for more
information on the Jim Thorpe Native American Games, June 9 - 15.
