Why Oklahoma City

Everything you need, and more than you'd expect.

If you've never been to Oklahoma City, you may just be surprised by all we have to offer. And if it has been a few years since your last visit, we know you'll be amazed by our progress. Since 1993, Oklahoma City has seen more than $5 billion of public and private investment in quality-of-life projects and improvements throughout the city. And we aren't finished yet; in fact, the best is yet to come.

In December 2009, the citizens of Oklahoma City passed a self-imposed, one-cent sales tax that will generate $777 million for additional improvement projects. New projects include:

Oklahoma River Improvements
Already designated as an official Olympic and Paralympic training site, Oklahoma City is creating the finest rowing racecourse in the world. We're also investing $25 million in a public whitewater kayaking facility that will accommodate all skill levels and provide a myriad of recreation possibilities for families, recreational enthusiasts, Olympic-caliber athletes and everyone in between.

Modern Downtown Streetcar System
Approximately five to six miles of downtown streetcar will link major attractions in the downtown area. It will be the most extensive of its type in the United States today, and the system will help to more sustainably connect workers to their jobs, residents to events and visitors to our attractions.

70-acre Downtown Park
This park will provide citizens and visitors with a variety of recreation activities, including concerts, walking/biking/running trails, picnic sites, youth sports fields, play areas, public art, interactive water features, and outdoor education opportunities, in addition to promoting a more healthy lifestyle. The park will connect downtown Oklahoma City to the shores of the Oklahoma River.

New Convention Center
Opening in late 2018
This new downtown convention center will include approximately 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 30,000-square-foot ballroom and 50,000 square feet of meeting space. Also planned is a new convention hotel.

With this downtown urban renaissance and a shimmering riverfront, a burgeoning art scene and world-class museums, there's an excitement in the air in Oklahoma City. Come discover for yourself why this cool city steeped in warm charm is the perfect environment for your next convention or meeting.
