Talk about an up-and-comer. More than $15 million in recent investments has transformed Northwest 16th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Classen Boulevard into a funky creative hub filled with art galleries, specialty shops, and great local restaurants.
Eat... a grilled cheese worth writing home about at The Mule. "Grilled cheese?" you ask. Yes, but not just any grilled cheese. Try the Macaroni Pony (three-cheese macaroni and cheese, chipotle barbecue pulled pork and pickles on jalapeño cornbread) or the Cortez (jalapeño cornbread with braised short ribs, Peperoncino, grilled jalapeño, caramelized onion and spicy aioli). And don't skip the tomato soup. Trust us.
Enjoy... a show at the cozy Lyric at the Plaza. Oklahoma City's Lyric Theatre calls the Plaza District home for half of the year (the other half is spent at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown OKC). The smaller, 270-seat theater makes for an intimate and incredible, show stopping experience. (Turn to page 65 to find out more about Lyric's 2014 performances.)
Experience... fun and funky local shopping. No vacation is complete without a few take-homes, right? The local shops of the Plaza District are perfect for souvenir shopping. Hop into Tree + Leaf for some OKC apparel (like an OKC Thunder shirt, because we know you're a fan). DNA Galleries is filled with great OKC-centered accessories including Oklahoma key chains, stickers, koozies and even an OKC coloring book for your favorite little one.

Of course, the guide above is just a sampling of what there is to taste, see and do in the district.
