OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Hall of Fame at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum is opening the temporary exhibit “Christie Owen: Surroundings” in the museum’s Tulsa World | Lorton Family Gallery on Thursday, Sept. 8. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 7, 2017, and enforces the mission of the gallery and museum to showcase Oklahoma artists.
A native New Yorker, Owen lives in Edmond and divides her time as an artist and graphic designer. Her 2-D and 3-D works may be found in local and national museums, galleries, public venues, private collections, and retail locations.
“I believe that my art speaks for itself,” Owen said. “It’s nice to not have to contemplate a painting and its message. I just want my work to be pleasing to the viewer.”
“Surroundings” offers a diverse collection of abstract 2-D and 3-D works inspired by everyday environments. The materials and compositions in Owen’s body of work perpetually change in relation to time and her life experiences. This collection captures a journey of experimentation while seeking to convey balance and unity through forms and colors derived by industry and nature.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum, 1400 Classen Drive. This reception is free to the public. For more information about this exhibit or the museum’s Tulsa World | Lorton Family Gallery, contact Marissa Raglin at email@example.com.
Two other events are scheduled in conjunction with the exhibit, an artist talk with Owen on Thursday, Oct. 8, and a closing reception on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017. Go to www.oklahomahof.com for more information about these events.
