The Force (of Nature) is Strong at the OKC Zoo

Fun, you’ll have! Celebrate the cute creatures that bind our galaxy together at the Oklahoma City Zoo’s second annual Star Wars inspired animal enrichment event on Friday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This date, May the fourth, marks an unofficial, grassroots Star Wars holiday due to its similarity to the film franchise’s often-used mantra “may the force be with you.”

Zoo guests are encouraged to unleash their inner Jedi by sporting Star Wars swag during the day’s festivities as they watch Zoo animals of all shapes and sizes, from giraffes to red pandas, interact with Star Wars-themed enrichment. Each guest will receive an enrichment schedule upon entering the Zoo.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Zoo’s education department will host a “Straw Wars” education table, where young padawans will learn how to make eco-friendly choices by opting to use reusable straws, bottles and bags, over single-use products. The education table will also include Star Wars-inspired activities and giveaways.

At 1 p.m., Zoo guests are invited to the small cat interp building in Cat Forest to celebrate the first birthday of coati brothers, BB-8 and Lando. Their birth date, May 4, 2017, inspired Zoo caretakers to name the siblings after two iconic characters from the Star Wars films. BB-8 and Lando are new to the Zoo’s animal family.

Save the date to experience the “wild” side of the force at the OKC Zoo. Zoo admission is required for the day’s festivities. Mock weapons such as light sabers are not permitted on Zoo grounds.
