OKLAHOMA CITY - Inspired by the special exhibition, "Master Strokes: Dutch and Flemish Drawings from the Golden Age," the staff at OKCMOA are encouraging visitors to "Think Like an Artist" at SONIC Free Family Day on Dec. 3 from noon to 5 p.m. SONIC Free Family Day is a biannual event with art activities, films and free admission. The day will feature live demonstrations by the Conservatory for Classical Art and screenings of short films from the New York International Children's Film Festival in the Samuel Roberts Noble Theater at 1 and 3 p.m.
Free admission and all activities for the event are made possible by SONIC, America's Drive-In.
"By observing and doing, guests at this December's Family Day can enjoy an afternoon of thinking like artists," said Tracy Truels, director of learning and engagement. "The Conservatory for Classical Art will offer live drawing demonstrations using techniques that are hundreds of years old. Our special exhibition, 'Master Strokes,' offers visitors an opportunity to see original drawings by some of the most influential artists of the last 500 years. Taking inspiration from these displays, guests can then create their own works of art to take home by sketching in the galleries or in our classrooms."
Free admission to the Museum includes the Museum's special exhibitions, "Master Strokes: Dutch and Flemish Drawings from the Golden Age," "The Art of Oklahoma" and "The Question of Beauty," as well as the Museum's permanent collection.
"We are delighted to continue to support the Museum's mission of enriching lives through the visual arts through SONIC Free Family Day," said Christi Woodworth, vice president of public relations for SONIC. "This day is a great opportunity for everyone to take advantage of everything our wonderful art museum has to offer. It is a lot of fun knowing that each Family Day is a little different, offering something for both new and repeat visitors to look forward to."
Parking downtown is free on Sundays. For a full schedule and more details about Family Day, visit www.okcmoa.com/visit/events/sonic-free-family-day-3/.
