SONIC Free Family Day: Visual Art and Performance at OKCMOA on April 9

Special guests include Sugar Free Allstars, OKC Improv and OKC Philharmonic

OKLAHOMA CITY - Featuring performances by the Grammy-featured Sugar Free Allstars, OKC Improv and a brass quintet from the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, SONIC Free Family Day on Sunday, April 9, will unite the visual and performing arts. SONIC Free Family Day, held twice per year, takes place from noon to 5 p.m. at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art in downtown OKC.

"Family Day has always been rooted in creative expression, and the activities we have planned will help kids make connections between all artistic disciplines," said Tracy Truels, director of learning and engagement. "From matching music to a Frank Stella sculpture, to seeing famous Oklahoma ballerinas in a painting on view, to learning about Kabuki theater through Japanese woodblock prints, everyone will find something to enjoy at Family Day."

In addition to free Museum admission on April 9, families can make puppets in the classrooms, sketch in the galleries, and see performances throughout the afternoon in the Samuel Roberts Noble Theater. The brass quintet will perform at 1 p.m., Sugar Free Allstars will perform at 2:30 p.m., and OKC Improv will perform at 4 p.m.

Free admission to the Museum includes both the Museum's special exhibitions, "After the Floating World: The Enduring Art of Japanese Woodblock Prints" and "The Unsettled Lens: Photography from the Permanent Collection."

"SONIC Free Family Day at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art is all about providing high-quality, engaging activities and experiences with the visual arts," said Christi Woodworth, vice president of public relations at SONIC Corp. "We hope families from across the OKC Metro will stop by to see all that our wonderful art museum has to offer. We are delighted to partner with OKCMOA to provide this fun day to our community."
