Cooler temps are energizing! After a long, languid summer, autumn has made its way to Oklahoma City bringing with it all sorts of seasonal family fun. We’ve corralled a gaggle of can’t-miss activities – some new and some tried-and-true – for you and yours to enjoy and explore.
Hit the trail! On a trail ride, that is, at The Riding Stables at Draper Lake. With horses suitable for all riders (ages 5 and up, including non-riders) and 3,000 acres of trails to explore, your crew will love saddling up. All rides are led by experienced guides. Choose between the one-hour and two-hour rides. Ask about seasonal moonlight rides!
Go Glamping. Orr Family Farm offers overnight stays in teepees or Conestoga wagons. Guests enjoy a fancy camping experience and exclusive, after-hours access to some of Orr Farm’s many seasonal attractions which may include human foosball, fishing, giant slides, swim spa, jumping pillows and more. They’ll even supply firewood and s’mores kits!
Let your creative juices flow. Try your hand at creating your own ceramic pieces at Paint ‘n’ Station. Choose from platters, coffee mugs, plates, decorative items and more. Choose your unfinished piece and color scheme, they’ll supply all the colored glazes and tools you’ll need to paint. When you’re done, Paint ‘N’ Station will fire your masterpiece for you to pick up later. Rather create edible art? Belle’s Kitchen Bakery & Café offers family baking and cookie decorating classes.
Get your science on. Science Museum Oklahoma has been around since 1958 and, like science itself, it’s always evolving, with more than 390,000 square feet of hands-on science experiences, art and history! The Science Floor is the heart of the museum, with hundreds of activities to teach, entertain and astound: Learn to drive on two wheels in the Segway Park, easily move a 400-pound weight with the Resonant Pendulum, visit the Tinkering Garage and much more. Bring your own snacks or enjoy a meal at Pavlov’s Grill & Snacks. While you’re in the neighborhood, spend some time at the OKC Zoo. Roam through the animal habitats, visit Stingray Bay, take a spin on the Endangered Species Carousel and ride the Elephant Express Tram.
Indulge your need for speed. Did you know that OKC is home to an array of indoor (and outdoor) go-kart tracks and bumper cars? Incredible Pizza’s got it all – laser tag, bumper cars, games, pizza and more. Celebration Station has go-karts, bumper boats, kid-karts, mini golf and batting cages. Perfect for the family who can’t sit still!
Park it. OKC is home to dozens of city parks, trails, skate parks, dog parks, disc golf courses and even an equestrian park. Scissortail Park and Myriad Botanical Gardens are smack in the middle of downtown and offer plenty to do. Explore the flora and fauna, take a class, toss a ball, paddle a boat or shoot some hoops. Martin Nature Park is a hub for nature exploration with guided hikes, education programs and an interactive learning center.
