Whether you want to eat some great food, learn more about Asian culture, watch live performances or take a class on Chinese Brushwork we’ve got it all at the Myriad Botanical Gardens this Friday, February 16 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

Here are ten things you can look forward to experiencing during our Lunar New Year celebration!

1. Chinese Brushwork Class with Beverly Herndon

Join us from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. inside the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory’s Terrace Room to learn the art of Chinese Brushwork with Beverly Herndon. Guests will paint a Chinese Dragon to take home with them. Pre-register online. $15 for members of the Gardens and $25 for non-members.

2. Lunar New Year Wreath Making with Kenton Peters

Join us from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. inside the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory’s Water Plaza Room to create your own Lunar New Year Wreath for your front door with Kenton Peters. Pre-register online. $30 for members of the Gardens and $35 for non-members

3. Sample Asian Food in the Park House Event Center

Take your taste buds on a culinary adventure with samples of authentic Asian cuisine. While there will be plenty of samples, food tickets are currently for sale online for $2 per food ticket.

Tea and candy fruit samples will be available for FREE thanks to our presenting sponsor Super Cao Nguyen. As well as high end tea for 2 tickets—King’s Oolong Tea, Gunpowder Tea and more. Bambu OKC is offering Che— a Vietnamese Dessert drink, Boba/Bubble Tea, Thai Tea and Fruit Tea for 2 tickets. As well as Spring Rolls, Egg Rolls, and Mochi Ice Cream for 1 ticket. Yum Yum Bites is offering Viet Sausage on Sugar Cane, Chicken Skewers and Lobster Bites for 2 tickets and Crab Rangoon 3 for 1 ticket. Face painting (price based on design) and games will also be available for the kids.

4. Crafts for Kids inside the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory

Guests can assemble their own dragon to take home, we are asking for $2 donations in order to participate. They can also color at the Metro Downtown Library booth, create origami with the Oklahoma Science Museum or decorate their own red envelopes. Get your photo with Mulan from 5 p.m.-6 p.m.

5. Year of the Dog with Central Oklahoma Humane Society and Pets and People.

It’s year of the dog this year so we have invited our friends from the Central Oklahoma Human Society and Pets and People to give out information about dog adoption and fostering at the event inside the Crystal Bridge. Pets are permitted in the dog park outside, but not inside the Crystal Bridge or Park House Event Center unless they are service animals.

6. Educational and Cultural Booths

Inside the Crystal Bridge you can visit our friends from the Metro Downtown Library,  Oklahoma History Center, OU Asian American Student Association, Calligraphy with Yusuke, THN Insurance, OU Medicine and Calligraphy with Dr. Arrow.

7. Cultural Presentations/Entertainment

8. Shop in the Crystal Bridge

Guests can purchase Glow Sticks and LED Rings for $1 per item, purchase a Year of the Dog T-shirt for $15, or purchase an Orchid for $15 in the Crystal Bridge. Year of the Dog Shirts will also be available for purchase in the Park House Event Center.

9. Browse through The “Poetree” Show in the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory

Plants have long served as an inspiration for poetry. For the 2018 orchid show, poetry will be the inspiration for our annual floral displays. Curated and arranged by Nate Tschaenn, director of horticulture and resident orchid expert, the Crystal Bridge will be filled with hundreds of spectacular orchids and tropical flowers featuring in exhibits featured by some of our favorite poems. $8 per adult, $7 seniors, students, military and $5 for children ages 4-12. FREE for Gardens members. Will remain open until 8 p.m.—extended hours for this event.

10. Traditional Games

Kids can try their hand at bầu cua cá cọp game (Vietnamese gambling game), Chinese yo-yo or xiangqi (Chinese chess) in the Crystal Bridge or Park House Event Center
