Friday, May 5th commences the celebration popularly known as Cinco de Mayo which usually boasts of music, margaritas, cervazas and some really good south of the border cuisine. Here are some places around Oklahoma City that will be offering something special for the Mexican holiday during the weekend.
American Tourist 2017: Cinco de Mayo – Friday May 5 from 6:30-11 pm
Just for grown-ups! Held at the Oklahoma City Historic Farmers Public Market, this event features music and dancing including salsa dancers, and you can even take a dance lesson yourself and watch a dancing contest! Bid on a silent and live auction and dine on Mexican inspired dishes by local eateries while washing it all down with equally inspired Mexican beverages. And speaking of beverages, there will also be a wine pull and raffle! Tickets must be purchased online (or by calling 405-232-5507) and you must be 21 to attend!
Cultivar Mexican Kitchen – Friday May 5th at 4 pm
Cultivar is one of the best and most-delicious new kids on the block in OKC this year and they are throwing a free Cinco en Siete party at the restaurant and on 7th Street (between Oklahoma Ave. and Broadway Blvd.) to show us why they’ve become so well-loved! They’ll have fun events like a dunk tank (for charity), live music, inflatables games for the kids, five giant candy-filled pinatas and muy Bueno food and beverages. They will offer three bar locations, two outdoor tents and Uptown Candy will there with Dippin Dots for your sweet tooth! Don’t forget to bring, because outside tents are cash-only (ATM’s will be on location)!
Hacienda Tacos – Friday May 5th
Head over to Hacienda Tacos located inside Northpark Mall and listen for the live feed with KOSU The SPY FM all day on their patio while enjoying draught beer and margarita specials. There will also be prizes and give-aways along with food specials!
Chelino’s – Friday May 5th
Chelino’s is one of Oklahoma City’s top local picks for great food and there is bound to be one of their thirteen locations near you! Each location is featuring free Pepsi products all day long and raffle prizes so head over to one and find out what you can win!
Cinco de Mayo en Calle Dos Cinco Celebration at Historic Capitol Hill – Friday May 5 from 6:00-9:00 pm
This will be the third year of this popular street festival and all ages are invited to experience the cultural entertainment that abounds! Enjoy watching folkloric dance by Ballet Folklorico Xochipilli and live music by Los Juliones Norteno Banda, a local favorite! Live DJ Sal will provide music and entertainment. The festival kicks off with a Traditional Mexican Dress Show of girls and boys. There will be crafts and activities for the young ones as well. Sample some delicious salsa varieties at the Salsa Tasting Competition by locals who think they make the best! Various local food will be served including street tacos, hot dogs and Philly cheesesteaks, churros, fruit treats, snow cones and of course cold beer and margaritas!
Barrios Fine Mexican Dishes – May 5th
Barrios will feature fun at their celebration including a Selfie Booth, live music and food specials throughout the night. Join them for delicious food and fun!
Iguana Mexican Grill – May 5th 5 pm
Iguana Grill boasts that tacos and tequila is what they do on 9th Street and they have also hosted a Cinco parking lot party for years that’s loads of fun complete with tents and music. They will offer $2 tacos, Picadillo nachos, cervezas, margaritas, and Hornitos shots. They’ll have DJ’s, outdoor bars, a photo booth and more.
Plaza Mayor at the Crossroads – Sunday May 7th from noon until 9 pm
This event just keeps getting bigger and grander each year. An outdoor festival celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla will feature live stage music, a Parade of Horses, the annual crowing of Miss Cinco de Mayo, lots of fun activities for the kiddos, some really great swag from sponsors and vendor and of course delicious Mexican food and drinks as well!
