With spring finally here, it's almost time to enjoy some hometown baseball. In OKC, that means root, root, rooting for the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Besides great baseball, here are five reasons an OKC Dodgers game should be on your OKC to-do.
1. Dodger Dogs
There've been lots of updates to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in anticipation of the Dodgers inaugural season as the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, including updates to the concessions menu. And the new affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers means the infamous Dodger Dogs will now be in OKC. Be sure to come hungry.
Baseball is only part of the fun when you come to a game at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. This season will feature a total of 11 fireworks nights, with postgame fireworks following each Friday home game, as well as on Opening Day and July 4.
3. Free Stuff
The OKC Dodgers will also have four special giveaway nights throughout the season:
Saturday, April 25 vs. Omaha - Baseball cap
Saturday, May 16 vs. Iowa - Souvenir baseball
Saturday, June 13 vs. Nashville - Travel tumbler
Saturday, August 8 vs. Colorado Springs - Bobblehead
Four outside entertainment acts have been scheduled to perform at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark as well:
Saturday, April 25 vs. Omaha - ZOOperstars!
Friday, June 12 vs. Nashville - Bucket Ruckus
Saturday, July vs. Round Rock - Xpogo
Saturday, August 22 vs. Reno - OKC Disc Dogs
Weekly promotions include the new Two-Dollar Thursdays, when soft drinks, bottled water, and select 16-ounce beers will cost just $2.
Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark is located smack-dab in the middle of Oklahoma City's premier entertainment district: Bricktown. Packed with restaurants, nightlife and entertainment options, you'll definitely want to schedule in time before and after the game to enjoy all Bricktown has to offer. A scenic ride down the Bricktown Canal on a Bricktown Water Taxi is a great way to tour the district from the eastern edge of downtown all the way to the northern edge of the Oklahoma River. And with 6 hotels in Bricktown, including 3 overlooking Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark's left field, you can easily stay and play in Bricktown without ever needing your car.
5. Family Fun
Baseball in OKC is affordable family fun. When interest in the game starts to wane for the littler ones, there's a brand new playground to help keep them entertained while the rest of the family enjoys the game. And following each Sunday game, kids will get the chance to go on the field and run the bases just like the players.
Opening Day is April 9, with regular season games scheduled through September. Visit the Dodgers official website for tickets and other information, and go to VisitOKC.com to start planning your trip today. Go Dodgers!
