Downtown in December is the most wonderful time of the year. With more than 25 unique events and activities, downtown Oklahoma City is transformed into a winter wonderland with fun for the whole family. Whether you’re looking to impress out-of-town guests or entertain the kids during winter break, Downtown in December offers a wide variety of options that you won’t want to miss. The Bricktown Tree Lighting Festival is one of the year’s most anticipated events. Serving as the official kickoff event for Downtown in December, the Tree Lighting Festival takes place on the 3rd Base Plaza at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on November 25th from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Devon Ice Rink returns to the Myriad Botanical Gardens in mid-November and offers outdoor ice skating seven days a week. The Rink hosts daily public skating, private parties, and special events all winter long. Devon’s Saturdays with Santa is one of Downtown in December’s top attractions. Bring the kids and visit Santa, make crafts, and participate in holiday-themed activities. Saturdays with Santa runs December 3rd, 10th, and 17th. The Sandridge Santa Run is Downtown in December's 5k race, a one-mile Fun Run, and a free Kid’s Dash. Bring the whole family and run through the streets of downtown Oklahoma City on Saturday, December 10th. Advanced registration is encouraged.
The Snow Tubing Winter Festival is another great attraction during Downtown in December. It consists of a gigantic snow tubing slope inside the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, starting from the upper level behind first base and landing near second base. Dog Day in December is a holiday party for pets and pet owners, held on December 1 from 6 to 8 p.m., and features pet photos with Santa, milk bones for pets and cookies for their owners. This event is free and open to pet lovers of all ages. Free Holiday Water Taxi rides are offered on designated days in November and December. Hop aboard a Bricktown Water Taxi and enjoy the lights, sights, and sounds of Downtown in December. Legends Night in Oklahoma City’s Deep Deuce District will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. on December 17th and will bring some of the best jazz musicians back to Downtown in December.
Shoppers can also pick up holiday gifts during Light Up Auto Alley, at the Holiday Pop-Up Shows at Midtown, Winter Shoppes at Myriad Gardens, Deluxe Winter Market, Mistletoe Market, and the Holiday Sip ’n’ Shop. Other Downtown in December offerings include Little Willie’s Triple Dog Dare, Sonic Segway Santa, a Christmas Crawl in Deep Deuce, as well as light displays on Automobile Alley, the Bricktown Canal, and in Film Row. The Oklahoma City Ballet’s Nutcracker, OKC Philharmonic’s Christmas Show, Lyric’s A Christmas Carol, Canterbury Christmas at The Civic Center, Reduction Theatre’s Holiday Shows, Red Earth’s Holiday Open House and Treefest, and Bricktown’s New Year’s Eve Party will all bring additional excitement to Downtown in December. Visitors can also find other holiday events at Myriad Gardens, the Skirvin Hotel, and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
