We saw the highest level of collegiate softball when the NCAA Women's College World Series rolled into town in early June. Now, it's time for the professionals. Oklahoma City welcomes athletes from around the world as they compete in the World Cup of Softball VIII at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium July 11-14. Folks, this is Olympic-caliber softball at its finest!
Joining Team USA at this year's four-day event will be the national teams from Australia, Canada, Puerto Rico and the reigning International Softball Federation (ISF) World champions, Japan. With the elimination of softball as an Olympic sport, the World Cup of Softball stands as one of the best international competitions. USA will take on Canada in the first game at 7 p.m. Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be packed with softball action with Championship Sunday concluding the weekend. Click here for a full schedule.
Along with the World Cup of Softball, Oklahoma City will also host the Border Battle V - the Canadian Men's Slow Pitch National Team versus the USA Softball Men's Slow Pitch National Team. The Border Battle will take place at noon on July 11 with the second annual Slow Pitch Showdown between the men's national team and the USA Softball Men's Futures Slow Pitch National Team immediately following at 3 p.m. When it comes to slow pitch softball, these guys are the best in the nation!
So, grab some water, sunscreen and a bag of peanuts...it's time to cheer on the home team this weekend! USA! USA! USA!
