A Date with the Duke
Dub and Mozelle Richardson Theater
Grab a partner and rendezvous with Museum curators in two of the current exhibitions, Hollywood and the American West and A Yard of Turkey Red: The Western Bandanna. Guests whet their appetite with hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and a scrumptious BBQ buffet – featuring brisket, chicken, ribs, and a selection of gourmet sides and desserts – served by The Petroleum Club of Oklahoma City. This is followed by a special film screening of The Cowboys (1972), starring John Wayne as Wil Andersen, a veteran rancher who needs hands for his yearly cattle drive spanning 400 miles through the “meanest country in the West.” It seems the men who normally work for Andersen have all left to seek their fortunes in the famed California Gold Rush. Without other options, the rancher is forced to consider hiring young boys, ages nine to 17, straight from the school of the local town. He puts the boys to the test and, after witnessing their determination and horse-riding skill, decides to take them on (2h 14 min, rated PG). $35 per person; $30 per person for Museum members.
