"Ethos:" Fringe Art Show at Verbode
Ethos will open with a reception on Thursday, September 27 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Verbode, 415 North Broadway, Suite 101 in Oklahoma City. The reception is free and open to the public. Visitors will be able to the meet the artists and enjoy hors d'oeuvres and libations.
Christie Hackler and Christie Owen co-founded Fringe in 2010 with the goal of helping female artists find success. Although 65-75 percent of MFA students are women, female artists account for only 27 percent of solo exhibitions. A mere five percent of artworks at major museums were created by women.
Ethos gives physical expression to the feelings of being alive. Christie Hackler’s enameled steel butterflies embody the need to transcend boundaries and obstacles that are self-created or forced upon us. Numbering in the hundreds, viewers gaze upon the swarm in childlike wonder.
Christie Owen creates large-scale, textural, abstract organic and geometric works. Her soft, calming paintings are a respite for eyes overstimulated by technology.
Behnaz Sohrabian’s captivating portraits celebrate the simplicity, beauty, and inspiration contained within the feminine. Her easy brushstrokes create light and shadow, a dynamic interplay between subject and background.
Katie Henderson uses bold colors to create large-scale gestural paintings in which color, form, shape, and balance take center stage. In creating her paintings, she seeks the spiritual, organic, and whimsical.
Fringe artists will donate a portion of all art sales from the show to The Homeless Alliance.
Verbode is a residential real estate brokerage located in the TAP Architecture Building in downtown Oklahoma City. Visitors can view Ethos Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm between September 27, 2018 and November 16, 2018. The artists will give a talk on October 20, 2018 from 10 am to 1 pm at Verbode.
