OKLAHOMA CITY (July 10, 2024) – The sport of rowing is becoming more diverse and USRowing is celebrating the change with a special Boathouse Brilliance event during the 2024 RowFest National Championships being held July 13-21 in Oklahoma City’s Boathouse District.
The public is invited to the free event which will celebrate and recognize Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) in rowing. This event will be held on Monday, July 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Devon Boathouse at 608 Riversport Dr., Oklahoma City, OK 73129.
Boathouse Brilliance provides a space for BIPOC athletes, coaches, referees, families and anyone interested in the sport of rowing to enjoy food and drinks while building community. This gathering is an opportunity to connect with others, share experiences and celebrate the diversity within the rowing community.
The event will feature inspiring remarks from guest speakers including:
• Gayle De Miranda, an athlete from India training at RIVERSPORT for the LA28 Olympics
• Lakota Longhorn, a recent graduate and OKC RIVERSPORT athlete
• Marqus Brown: a dedicated University of Washington coach and leader in the rowing community
