From beloved events to water sports, Oklahoma City is overflowing with fun this holiday weekend.
The lazy days and long nights of summer are coming to an end, so why not head to Oklahoma City for one last hurrah? Here are our recommendations of ways to spend Labor Day Weekend in OKC – and be sure to come back to check out all of the must-do's in OKC!
Oklahoma City's super-soaking attractions are the perfect places for one last summer splash. Spend your weekend on the water at RIVERSPORT Adventures with activities such as surfing, whitewater rafting, paddle boarding, tubing and more. Dive in to OKC's largest water park, Hurricane Harbor for high-speed water slides and cool pools the whole family will enjoy, or head over to Frontier City to take on Renegade Rapids and more.
For more fun on the water, check out the splash pads at Myriad Gardens, rent a pedal boat on the lake at Scissortail Park or cruise the Bricktown Canal on the Bricktown Water Taxi (bonus: listen to live, local music while you cruise the canal if you purchase tickets to their Showboat Concert Series.)
If you're looking to be inspired, discover Oklahoma City's art scene! Paseo Arts District's annual Paseo Arts Festival makes it's post-COVID return this Labor Day Weekend. This beloved annual event takes place over three days and features more than 90 local visual artists, 50 musicians and 20 food trucks. Then, take in the incredible works of "Painters of Pompeii," which is presented exclusively at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art before it returns to Europe. This historic exhibition features the art of painting in ancient Rome and will only be in OKC through Oct. 17, 2021. Voted the best city in the U.S. for Street Art by USA Today, Oklahoma City is home to vibrant murals which bring beautiful pops of color to the landscape. Go Mural Chasing through the districts and make time to visit Plaza Walls in the Plaza District before the murals are rotated at the annual Plaza District Festival in October.
OKC was named one of 5 surprising foodie destinations in the U.S., and rightfully so. With an abundance of delicious local restaurants, you can't go wrong exploring the Modern Frontier's foodie scene. Discover authentic Vietnamese food in the Asian District. Savor an Oklahoma original - the onion burger - at Tucker's Onion Burgers or Nic's Grill. Craving an end of summer barbecue feast? Our BBQ joints can't be beat. Wherever your stomach takes you, be sure to indulge in one last snow cone of the season. May we suggest Sasquatch Shaved Ice in the Plaza District or Katiebug's Shaved Ice & Hot Chocolate in Automobile Alley?
