Lake Hefner
One popular spot among the locals for all kinds of recreation is Lake Hefner, on the city’s central northwest side. On any given day, you’ll find walkers, runners, bicyclers, roller-bladers, skateboarders and more enjoying the trails that circle the lake. Visit the East Wharf, at Britton Road off Lake Hefner Parkway for exceptional dining with a view and our only lighthouse, one of the most Instagrammable spots in OKC. Catch some of the city’s most glorious sunsets at Lake Hefner, as well as some waves, especially if you’re into sailing or water sports like kitesurfing. On the lake’s south side is the Lake Hefner Golf Course.
On Water
The mild waters of Lake Hefner make it a perfect spot for kayaking and paddle boarding. Permitted boating is also welcome on the water, and on breezy days, you'll see the lake come alive with sails. Those with a valid fishing license are invited to fish along the shoreline or off the docks. On those cooler days, check out the heated dock for your fishing adventure! Swimming is not permitted at Lake Hefner.
On Land
Circling Lake Hefner and the surrounding area are paved trails for running, walking or cycling – and the views can't be beat. With nearly 10 miles of paved trails, the lake is a favorite spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Start your day off on the right foot with a sunrise run, or take a sunset stroll after an indulgent meal. On the north shore, Bluff Creek offers more rugged activities such as space to off-road bike and outdoor exercise equipment. Wherever you roam, don't miss a pit stop at the iconic lighthouse. Looking for something different? Tee off on the south shore at Lake Hefner Golf Club or head over to Stars & Stripes Park for a playground, BMX park and sports fields.
Take A Bite
- Red Rock Canyon Grill is a local favorite, in large part due to a spacious patio on the edge of Lake Hefner's East Wharf. Enjoy some local Southwestern flavors while taking in one of the best views of the sunset in the metro.
- Watch the sunset over shimmering Lake Hefner at Hefner Grill while devouring fresh seafood with an Oklahoma twist, like the shrimp and scallops enchiladas covered in an ancho cream sauce.
- Sip margaritas on the patio at Mama Roja Mexican Kitchen while savoring familiar favorites like tamales, tacos and plentiful chips and salsa.
- Craving something more casual? Cool down with a cold one at Louie's Grill & Bar. Ample large-screen TVs, a menu filled with American classics and open patio make Louie's the perfect place to catch a game or kick back with friends.
