Where to Find Great Tacos

You’re never far from your new favorite taco. Spots across the city range from casual street food to specialized creations in destination-worthy restaurants.

For an authentic taqueria experience, visit SW OKC staples like Tony’s Tacos, where birria tacos and asada fries are served in a fast-casual drive-in setting, and La Michoacana, a Mexican grocery store and meat market with a taco counter (try the steak or barbacoa). On SW 29th Street, a vibrant corridor of amazing Mexican food, Taqueria Los Desvelados is a homey counter-service spot where tacos include carne asada, al pastor, lengua, goat birria and tripe.

Food trucks are another wellspring of authentic Mexican food. Taco trucks, particularly, can be found all over the city, including popular late-night options along 39th Street. You’ll find El Taco Loco parked in front of Angles nightclub, and Taqueria El Rincon at 3634 NW 39th Street, both serving tacos alongside quesadillas and burritos.

Other Mexican restaurants around the city offer their own twists on taco traditions. Big Truck Tacos starts early with breakfast tacos, including guacamole-stuffed green eggs and ham, while nearby OSO Paseo serves up creative tacos and tiki cocktails in a beachy, cantina-like space (vegetarian options, like fried avocado and sweet potato, are standouts).

Barrios is another favorite for specialty tacos, including pork cheek carnitas with pineapple salsa. And in the Britton District, El Coyote fuses Mexican and New Mexican flavors for a unique medley of blue corn tacos, including sorghum-glazed beef and chicken mole.
