Pickard Design Studio curated the remarkable interior design for Lively Hotel, anchoring OAK’s hospitality-driven mixed-use community
OKLAHOMA CITY (November 19, 2024) – Lively Hotel, a new boutique hotel in Oklahoma City, is now open at OAK, a 20-acre mixed-use destination. Pickard Design Studio, a female-led firm based in Dallas, designed custom-built interiors for all areas of the hotel, including 132 rooms and amenity spaces, that tell the story of Oklahoma City’s history and is inspired by its state bird, the scissor-tailed flycatcher.
Designed to be OAK’s “living room,” Lively Hotel is part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton™, a gathering of original upscale hotels. As Oklahoma’s first Tapestry Collection hotel, Lively Hotel features a 3,050-square-foot bar and restaurant; an elevated amenity deck with a 2,400-square-foot outdoor bar and activated pool area; a fitness center; and over 2,600 square feet of meeting space.
New photography (linked here) illustrates Pickard Design Studio’s commitment to custom design, as well as many instances in which inspiration was taken from the scissor-tailed flycatcher and its graceful, dancing movements.
- Prioritizing artful encounters, Pickard Design Studio engaged Kevin Barry Fine Art to create a custom art package for the hotel, including a large metal installation showcasing Victor Hugo’s “The Bird” poem.
- Lobby art was also inspired by the French hot air balloonist who hovered over Oklahoma City in 1889 to claim land, with the wall flanking the bar showcases a striking, three-dimensional hot air balloon mural made of string.
- In the guest rooms, several pieces are inspired by the scissor-tailed flycatcher, such as the color palette of persimmon, pink, orange, blue and black. Even the V-back design of the desk chair is inspired by the open tail of the bird while in flight.
“With every project, our goal is to tell a captivating story through custom design,” said Sarah Pickard, founder of Pickard Design Studio. “We could not be more proud of our work at Lively Hotel, where every light fixture, color, accessory or piece of art flows together to create a cohesive hospitality experience that is unlike anything in the region. As the anchor for OAK’s incredible mixed-use community, Lively Hotel is a dynamic, authentic and sophisticated environment for any vacationer, staycationer or business traveler.”
In addition, the lobby bar features a cantilevered garage door that opens for pool service, revealing a pool deck design that is centered around a fire pit and a variety of lounge seating options, dining areas and resort-style cabanas. From the elevated deck, guests can overlook OAK’s Heartwood Park, which features Cloud Trees and Cloud Puncher, two awe-inspiring art installations from Brad Oldham Sculpture. Additionally, several miniature art pieces inspired by the sculptures can be found within Lively Hotel’s lobby.
Also noteworthy is how the Lively Hotel’s interior design intentionally balances a mix of feminine and masculine elements, such as curved, metal and wood pieces and custom lighting. For instance, the restaurant is centered around a four-sided banquette that curves with metal railings. Mirroring the design of the lobby, the king and queen rooms incorporate vertical walnut slats and metal fixtures that intersect with curves.
Lively Hotel was developed in partnership with Gatehouse Capital and Veritas Development and is managed by First Hospitality. For more information on Lively Hotel or to make a reservation, visit its website.
