OKLAHOMA CITY — Science Museum Oklahoma’s biggest event of the year is back with a new name and the same unbeatable experience. DiscoverFest, formerly known as Tinkerfest, will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 2020 Remington Place in Oklahoma City. This all-day event is free and open to the public, transforming the entire museum and grounds into a playground for curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning.

Call for Community Partners
Right now, the museum is calling on businesses, clubs, schools, individuals, and organizations to help bring DiscoverFest to life. Each year, these partners host hands-on stations that showcase everything from robotics and woodworking to art, design, and music production. These partnerships are the heart of the event and a unique way to inspire future scientists, artists, makers, and innovators.

“Changing the name to DiscoverFest reflects what this day has always been about which is curiosity, imagination, and the thrill of trying something new,” said Sherry Marshall, John E. Kirkpatrick CEO of Science Museum Oklahoma. “And while it’s a free day at the museum, the value of what happens here goes far beyond admission. This is about sparking lifelong interest in STEAM.”

In addition to the 50+ hands-on activities, guests will have full access to all museum exhibits, including the world-class Love’s Planetarium. Past favorites have included dismantling a car, pancake art, pendulum painting, robotics, and live music mixing. The museum will remain open until 6 p.m., and activities conclude at 4 p.m.

This free event is made possible by a strong network of community supporters dedicated to hands-on science education.

DiscoverFest is also part of a regional celebration of creativity and invention held across Oklahoma and Arkansas:

  • September 13 — Museum of Discovery, Little Rock, AR
  • September 20 — Discovery Lab, Tulsa, OK
  • September 27 — Science Museum Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK
  • October 4 — Scott Family Amazeum, Bentonville, AR

“Being part of this regional initiative means that tens of thousands of families can experience the joy of discovery,” said Chris Syfrett, Tinkering Initiatives Manager. “These events introduce new ideas, new tools, and new passions—and that’s what science education is all about.”
