An evening of expressive watercolor art, local refreshments, and pollinator conservation at Amshot

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Amshot is proud to present the latest installment of its triannual art series, exhibITion: Evolutions in Blue, showcasing the vibrant, expressive work of Oklahoma City-based artist Laurel Payne. The event will take place on Thursday, October 23, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Amshot, 1300 N Broadway Dr. in Oklahoma City.

This one-night-only event is free and open to all ages, with a suggested $5 donation to the Oklahoma Monarch Society. Donors receive a wristband to enjoy local beer and wine, and light hors d’oeuvres.

10% of the art sales will also benefit the Oklahoma Monarch Society, also known as Okies for Monarchs, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to creating and protecting habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators across Oklahoma.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Laurel Payne works primarily in watercolor, pen, and ink, exploring emotional connections between people and the natural world. Her work is deeply inspired by landscapes, flora, and the human form.

“The beauty of landscapes, flowers, and the human body inspire me,” says Payne. “These subjects speak to me and often cause a feeling of restlessness—a compulsion to offer a visual interpretation of emotions toward a scene or object.”

A graduate of Oklahoma State University with degrees in Studio Art and Art History, Payne’s art reflects her fascination with perception, connection, and the delicate balance between structure and spontaneity.

A CONNECTION BETWEEN ART AND ECOLOGY

The Oklahoma Monarch Society sees this collaboration as a powerful expression of the intersection between creativity and conservation.“We believe in the nexus of science, art, and nature,” says Katie Hawk, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Monarch Society. “This exhibition beautifully reflects that connection and helps raise awareness for monarch conservation.”

The Oklahoma Monarch Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization formed in 2024 to support statewide efforts to create and protect habitat for monarch butterflies and other pollinators in Oklahoma. One of its key initiatives is Okies for Monarchs, a statewide outreach and education campaign dedicated to promoting pollinator-friendly practices among individuals, schools, businesses, and communities.
