[Oklahoma City, July 16, 2024] — The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is thrilled to announce the 2024 National Day of the Cowboy celebration, taking place on July 27. This eagerly anticipated event honors the enduring legacy of the American cowboy and celebrates the vibrant cultural heritage of the American West.
Highlighting this year’s festivities is the special appearance of renowned cowboy cook and storyteller Kent Rollins. Known for his authentic cooking and captivating tales of cowboy life, Rollins will connect with fellow Western enthusiasts at two presentations and a meet-and-greet for fans. Rollins will also be signing his books, which are available for purchase at the Persimmon Hill boutique at the Museum.
The event also promises a diverse range of activities and performances that capture the spirit of the cowboy lifestyle:
- Children’s Activities: Engage in activities designed for young cowpokes, including mechanical bull riding, arts and crafts, trick roping, barrel racing, basket weaving, sarsaparilla sampling and face painting.
- Live Music and Entertainment: Experience a live performance by an acclaimed musician from Oklahoma Opry – Wyatt Zane, who has been gaining attention with his original songs and captivating live performances. His music blends elements of country and folk and red dirt, creating a unique and engaging sound.
- Western Artisan Demonstrations: Artisans Troy West and Jay Adcock from Traditional Cowboy Arts Association will be on hand to talk about saddle making and rawhide braiding.
- Museum Exhibitions: Explore The Cowboy’s exceptional collections and exhibitions, which offer insights into the history, art and culture of the American West.
Admission to the National Day of the Cowboy celebration is included with regular Museum admission, ensuring an affordable and enriching experience for visitors of all ages. Admission is $20 for adults, $12 for children ages 6-17, and free for children who are five or younger.
All crafts and activities are free with admission, except food from The Museum Grill and souvenirs and books from the Persimmon Hill store.
