Join Kings of Leon, Mayor David Holt and the Oklahoma City Council to officially dedicate the newly named Kings of Leon Lane in Bricktown.
“We are thrilled to recognize Kings of Leon for their Oklahoma City roots and their support of our city through the years,” said Mayor Holt. “Kings of Leon now joins a constellation of OKC musical stars celebrated in Bricktown, including Charlie Christian, Wanda Jackson, Vince Gill and The Flaming Lips. These namings are our opportunity to remind the world the artistic brilliance that originates in OKC, and remind our young people that they can be anything they want to be.”
The dedication is 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the corner of California and Joe Carter avenues.
The City Council voted in August to re-name E California Avenue to honor the band, which has Oklahoma City ties. Kings of Leon Lane is the new name of the street for the stretch between Joe Carter and Charlie Christian avenues.
Kings of Leon is a Grammy Award-winning rock band formed in 1999 with four members of the Followill family. Some of the band members lived in Oklahoma City as kids.
Kings of Leon is headlining a free concert later Friday to celebrate the grand opening of MAPS 3’s Scissortail Park. The show is on the Love’s Travel Stops Stage and Great Lawn in the middle of the park. Visit scissortailpark.org for more information about the show and other events on its opening weekend.
