(OKLAHOMA CITY) – The Automobile Alley Association and Downtown Oklahoma City Partnership will host the eighth annual Lights On Broadway as part of Downtown in December presented by Devon. The event returns for three Saturdays this season, Dec. 2, Dec. 9, and Dec. 16, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Retail shops and restaurants will feature family-friendly activities, special promotions, and giveaways.
From the dazzling light curtains to the larger-than-life lit Christmas ornaments, Automobile Alley is the destination for festive photos, holiday celebrations and local shopping. More than 600,000 colorful LED lights will curtain the buildings along ten blocks of North Broadway and side streets, making for a magical holiday destination through Jan. 7.
As a nod to the district’s automobile history, Santa will be smiling in style with his 1929 Mercedes Benz at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation parking lot located at NW 9th Street and Broadway Avenue. Visitors are welcome to take photos with Santa with their camera.
Free programming at every event includes Magic Elves, caricatures, face painting, and balloon artists. Each Saturday will also offer a variety of programming with a unique twist. On Dec. 2, the community is encouraged to dress up in their favorite holiday sweater or as a holiday character. Oklahoma Contemporary will host a Dog Holiday Costume Contest on their north lawn at 3:30 p.m. On Dec. 9, attendees can enjoy the sounds of the season with the Salvation Army Brass Band, St. Paul Cathedral Carolers, and the Jimmy Dale Richardson Band’s Rockin’ Christmas Show. On Dec. 16, the event is on the move with the Motors in the Alley car meetup and a dance procession with Spark Creative.
Attendees can arrive in style on the Oklahoma City Streetcar. Rides are free Fridays through Sundays through Dec. 31 in celebration of their fifth anniversary. Learn more about Oklahoma City Streetcar at OKCStreetcar.com.
