Flooding continues to grow as a concern for first responders across the country. In response, Oklahoma City’s RIVERSPORT is hosting a Swiftwater Rescue Conference this week, Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 30-Sept. 1.  

 

The week culminates on Friday with the first Swiftwater Championship Games where First Responders will compete for bragging rights and medals.

OKLAHOMA CITY (August 30) – RIVERSPORT OKC and Oklahoma State University are responding to the ever-growing challenge of floodwater rescue across the country by offering a swiftwater training conference for First Responders.  

The 2022 RIVERSPORT Swiftwater Conference is being held at RIVERSPORT Rapids in Oklahoma City August 30 through September 2. First Responders will learn best practices in the classroom from OSU’s nationally recognized fire rescue program, then put them into action on RIVERSPORT’s $45M whitewater rapids facility in this action-packed three-day conference.  

A special night session on Thursday evening will give First Responders valuable experience in handling rescues after dark.  

 Individuals who complete the course will receive Swiftwater Awareness & Operations Certification or Swiftwater Technician Refresher Certification. 

 

This program is designed for both novice and experienced First Responders from fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, US&R and military personnel – anyone charged with responding to flood and swiftwater incidents. 

The inaugural RIVERSPORT Swiftwater Championship Games take place Friday, September 2, starting at 8:00 a.m. and are open to the public.
