Oklahoma City, OK (September 17, 2024) – The Paseo Arts Association proudly announces the October exhibits in the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center! These exhibits will open on Oct. 4 during First Friday Gallery Walk from 6-9pm at 3024 Paseo. These exhibits include Inspiring Hope in Gallery I, Peg Jewell in Gallery II and People of the Prairie in Gallery III.
Inspiring Hope is a juried exhibition hosted by the Friends of the OU Breast Institute. The show strives to go beyond the symbolism of breast cancer and explores the things in life that we each find to inspire and encourage healing and well-being. Friends of the OU Breast Institute is a non-profit organization that raises money through its "Friends" membership dues and fundraising activities to support breast cancer awareness as well as prevention of and support of those with breast cancer at OU Health. The show was juried by Oklahoma artist, Jennifer Cocoma Hustis.
The PAA welcomes Peg Jewell and her watercolor artwork in Flora, Fauna and the Unexpected.
This series of artwork combines the elements of beauty and fun, focusing on the wonder and vibrancy found in nature. Jewell developed her love for watercolor painting through her beginnings in stained glass work. The play of light and color led her to experiment with watercolor, which is now her preferred medium. The influence of her stained-glass work is evident in many of her paintings. Today, she primarily paints from her own photographs, especially nature.
People of The Prairie is a portrait project aimed at educating the public about Oklahoma non-profits helping people through poverty, mental health issues, abuse, etc. Each portrait represents a person and their progress in recovering from these issues. The finished portraits are either given to the person painted or the agency that helped them recover. This project was created by Kris Newlin, a mixed-media artist and licensed art therapist and counselor. Newlin is known for her portrait artwork that tells the stories of people from all walks of life. In 2022, Newlin proposed People of the Prairie at Paseo FEAST, where it was selected as the winning project and awarded a community-funded grant to begin production.
