State-wide award program recognizes organizations creating a more sustainable Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City, OK – November 28, 2022: OKC Beautiful and one of its board members were recognized at Keep Oklahoma Beautiful’s annual Environmental Excellence Celebration on November 18.
The Keep Oklahoma Beautiful awards recognize individuals and organizations in Oklahoma that have contributed to the beautification and environmental stewardship of the state.
“What an honor it is to celebrate countless servant hearts who make it their business to enhance and beautify the communities in which they live, work and play,” said Jeanette Nance, Executive Director of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful.
An OKC Beautiful board member and long-time volunteer, Cynthia Brindley, was recognized as the Volunteer Champion Award winner. Brindley began volunteering with OKC Beautiful in the early 1990s and founded OKC Beautiful’s elementary education program, Mother Earth. This program visits metropolitan areas elementary schools with an introduction to environmental stewardship concepts like recycling, water conservation, and picking up litter. The program has reached hundreds of thousands of students since its inception. In addition to this, Brindley serves as a current board member of OKC Beautiful and its Program Committee Chair.
“I’m just so very grateful to OKC Beautiful for always having an inviting space where ideas can flow into new projects and programs,” said Brindley. “And I am appreciative of Keep Oklahoma Beautiful for having a pulse on communities across our state that are working hard to better their cities and neighborhoods. I’m so very grateful to both of these amazing organizations for their unwavering commitment to environmental causes as well as beautification.”
“Our prestigious board awards honor individuals and organizations that exemplify our mission and giving back to our great state,” said Nance. “Cynthia is certainly deserving of this Champion Volunteer award.”
In addition to Brindley’s recognition, OKC Beautiful and partners also received the Team Builder Award for development of the Tabitha Community Park in northeast Oklahoma City. This award recognizes a project accomplished by multiple partners. Community partners funding and facilitating this project were the Tabitha Baptist Church, the Lynn Institute, OKC Beautiful, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, Inasmuch Foundation, Keep Oklahoma Beautiful, Keep America Beautiful, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, and Total Environment. This project was also selected as the overall Best of the Environmental Best winner for the ceremony.
“We are thrilled to receive this reconnection,” said Lisa Synar, Executive Director of OKC Beautiful. “It was an example of what can be achieved with collaboration of efforts and resources. The park provides a beautiful gathering place for this wonderful community in northeast Oklahoma City.”
