OKLAHOMA CITY – RIVERSPORT OKC is hosting a free Learn to Row Day on Saturday, June 4 at the at the Lake Overholser Boathouse. Activities will be offered from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to teach participants the basics of rowing. Sessions begin every half hour. The event is free, but registration is required.

Participants will start on ergs – land rowing machines – to learn the basic motion, then move to Oar Boards to get on the water. A new innovation in rowing, these specially-equipped paddle boards offer a stable platform for new rowers to practice the rowing stroke.

“You don’t have to be an athlete to make it happen,” explained RIVERSPORT OKC Director Mike Knopp. “Recreational rowers range in age from 12 to 90, it’s never too early or too late to take up the sport.”

Learn to Row Day is open to anyone ages 14 and older. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes, tennis shoes and socks, and to bring a hat, sunglasses, water bottle and sunscreen.

Extended Learn to Row lessons will be offered this summer for participants interested in getting involved in the sport. RIVERSPORT offers both recreational and competitive rowing programs for both youth and adults.

Lake Overholser Boathouse is located at 3115 E. Overholser Drive. Free registration is available online at riversportokc.org/events/learn-to-row-day.
