Oklahoma City, OK: Oklahoma City Ballet will launch its 50th Anniversary season at the Civic Center Music Hall with three productions of Septime Webre’s ALICE (in wonderland), October 22-24, 2021. All performances will feature live music performed by the OKCPHIL.
ALICE (in wonderland) is a fresh take on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, featuring beloved characters like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the frantic White Rabbit, and the Cheshire Cat. This production mixes skilled ballet with theatrical effects, and a brilliant original score by Matthew Pierce, who will be conducting the OKCPHIL at all performances.
Audiences of all ages will witness high flying adventures, clever special effects, and massive feats of dancer strength. In addition to Oklahoma City Ballet’s professional dancers, students from the Ballet’s Yvonne Chouteau School will fill several roles including baby flamingos, tiny hedgehogs, and little piglets. The 535 costume pieces featured in ALICE were created by Cirque de Soleil designer Liz Vandal. Four dancers bring to life a massive Jabberwock puppet created by designer Eric Van Wyk.
“This production has something special for everyone! It will feature gorgeous live music, bright scenery, over-the-top characters in fantastic costumes, and of course, amazing dancing,” said Artistic director Robert Mills. “This colossal production is the perfect way to start our 50th season. I hope that audiences of all ages come out to see our talented dancers.”
One hour prior to each performance, guests can learn more about ballet and ALICE (in wonderland) at Behind the Ballet, a free informative program held in the South Lobby of the Civic Center Music Hall. The lobby will also include an interactive photo booth and the Oklahoma City Ballet boutique.
Audiences at Oklahoma City Ballet performances will be required to wear masks while inside the Civic Center Music Hall, but are not required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.
