OKLAHOMA CITY, Nov. 6, 2026 — Great ideas rarely arrive fully formed. A new experience at Science Museum Oklahoma will give guests a front row seat to the process of sketching, testing, changing, and sometimes scrapping ideas for the museum.

Now open, CoLab invites guests to see how ideas become real by watching artists, engineers, and museum creators build, test, repair, and experiment in real time.

Through large windows, guests can peek into an active workspace where creative projects are constantly taking shape.

The space is home to Science Museum Oklahoma’s new Maker Artist in Residence program while also giving visitors an occasional glimpse at the museum’s exhibit team as they test and repair hands-on experiences.

The Maker Artist in Residence program brings creative thinkers into CoLab to explore ideas through art, science, engineering and technology. The museum’s first resident, artist, and exhibit developer Trevor Taylor, will explore artificial intelligence as a creative tool and medium.

“Art and science aren’t as separate as we sometimes make them out to be,” said Alyson Atchison, Director of Galleries and Collections at Science Museum Oklahoma. “CoLab gives children a chance to see someone creating, experimenting, and solving problems in real time. Trevor’s work will move into parts of the museum, so guests will be able to see that journey from an idea taking shape to a finished work. I hope kids see that you don’t have to choose between being an artist or a scientist. You can be both.”

Because the work inside will continually evolve, what guests see one day may look completely different on their next visit. The experience is included with general admission and membership. Learn more at sciencemuseumok.org.
