There is already cause for celebration at Scissortail Park, even though its first birthday is about two months away.
The park, a crown jewel of Oklahoma City’s MAPS 3 program, earned national and regional engineering awards this month.
“These awards are more evidence of how proud Oklahoma City residents should be of Scissortail Park,” said MAPS Program Manager David Todd. “Professionals across the industry know how hard it is to pull off an ambitious project like this. In Oklahoma City, it all starts with the trust residents have had in the MAPS program for almost 30 years.”
The American Public Works Association (APWA) named Scissortail Park as a winner in the Structures category of its 2020 Public Works Projects of the Year. The annual awards go to projects that demonstrate excellence in management in administration, in recognition of the cooperation required on such projects between the government, contractors and consultants.
Scissortail Park’s APWA award was for projects with a budget of at least $75 million. Read more about the awards here.
Engineering News-Record (ENR) Texas & Louisiana, a regional industry publication that covers Oklahoma, recognized the park as one of its 2020 Best Projects. The annual awards go to architectural, engineering and construction projects across a range of categories.
Scissortail Park’s ENR award was as the Best Project in the Landscape/Urban development category. Read more about the awards here.
The 40-acre upper section of Scissortail Park opened in September 2019 with a three-day festival featuring live music and family fun. The 30-acre lower section is scheduled to open in 2021.
