“The Wichitas” opens June 2 at the Paseo Arts and Creativity Center’s Gallery II. “The Wichitas” is a large format photography exhibit featuring work by Oklahoma based artist and photographer VC Torneden. The public will have the opportunity to meet the artist at the opening reception on June 2nd from 6 p.m. through 9 p.m. The opening is free and open to the public, and is part of the First Friday Art Walk in the Paseo Arts District. The work will be on exhibit at PACC’s Gallery II from June 2 to 24, 2023.
“From my first visit, the Wichitas became a source of absolute fascination. So different from the views I’m accustomed to growing up in the Delta South, the megalithic look of those otherworldly ridges entrances me every time I’m there,” said VC Torneden. “Consequently I began an ongoing landscape series endeavoring to capture some hint of that holiness, that ancient otherworldliness that is the Wichitas. It was in the attempt to show their magnificence that the idea was born to produce an exhibit of large format prints in an effort immerse the audience in the landscape through my eyes, transforming the gallery space into a series of portal views and bringing the grandeur of it home to the gallery guest.”
