The weather is turning cooler making fall the perfect time to explore Oklahoma City by bicycle.

Opportunities abound for novice and elite cyclists to enjoy the many ways you can experience OKC by bike.

Whether you’re planning a fun night out with friends or a family adventure, Ride OKC offers a variety of bike tours and rentals that make it easy to sightsee around downtown Oklahoma City. Their fleet of rentable three-speed bikes include locks, lights, helmets and even roadside assistance. Kid bike trailers or attachable co-pilot bikes (recommended for children ages 4-9) are also available. Guided bike tours range from history, art and architecture themes to local food and craft beer.

While touring pubs may seem out of place in a bike blog, for those that love cycling and beer, Ride OKC’s Bikes + Brews Tour may be just the ticket. This tour guides you to five pubs in three hours where you can sample beers as part of the package. Between stops, a friendly, knowledgeable guide will provide insight into the history of Oklahoma City.

Looking for a memorable adult birthday or bachelor(ette) party idea? Bricktown Bike Bar offers pedal-powered fun that you won’t stop talking about for days. Gather up to 16 of your friends and test your teamwork and coordination as you explore one of the pre-designed Bricktown routes or customize a route of your own.

While guided tours can uncover new perspectives in a city, some folks prefer to cruise on their own. Oklahoma City boasts more than 90 miles of trails that are great for any pace. Suit up in spandex to log serious miles for exercise or pick out a select path to meander using this list of trails maintained by the City of OKC. Their Trails Map is also helpful for locating the nearest trail or plotting the best route.

In addition to paved, multiuse trails across Oklahoma City, there are also opportunities for mountain biking at Bluff Creek or the Lake Stanley Draper Trail which consists of three connecting loops that add up to about 12 miles of off-road trails with varying levels of difficulty.

Need inspiration for a socially distanced outing that will also expand your mind? Oklahoma City is known as the Modern Frontier, in part, because of the complex and fascinating history in how it was settled. The 89er Trail uses historical markers to share an abbreviated story of OKC’s birth which can be viewed in part or in total as a self-guided walking or biking tour.

BMX enthusiasts will also not want to miss the Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park. This outdoor sports park was specifically designed for BMX riders, skateboarders and rollerbladers, with 26,000 square feet of challenging bowl and street courses.

So strap on that helmet and make plans to experience Oklahoma City on two wheels. It’s a fun way to navigate urban attractions, relax on lakeside paths or get an adrenaline rush from shredding a wooded trail or half-pipe in the heart of the city.
