Eight sessions for individuals 55+ will culminate in art show
OKLAHOMA CITY (May 1, 2026) — The Oklahoma City Museum of Art (OKCMOA) today announced the launch of a new program supported by Art Bridges. Creative Aging invites participants aged 55 and older to explore new ideas, develop skills, and share experiences with one another through art. Sessions for this program will take place Thursdays, May 21 through July 9, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at OKCMOA. A welcome brunch will be held on Saturday, May 16, at the Museum. A nominal $5 participation fee covers all eight sessions, and the program is capped at twenty registrants.
Each Creative Aging session begins with guided conversations in the galleries, where participants engage with works from the Museum’s collection and loans from Art Bridges. These discussions will inspire studio projects that build both technical skills and personal expression each week. Participants are encouraged to attend each session in order to support both individual growth and group connection.
“Research shows that engaging with the arts can support well-being, encourage lifelong learning, and foster meaningful social connections,” said Neely Simms, Senior Manager of Programs. “We’re excited to offer a supportive, welcoming environment in which participants can grow both creatively and socially.”
Creative Aging will conclude with a celebratory exhibition of participant artwork on Thursday, July 9, with event times to be announced at a later date.
While Creative Aging is not intended as a memory-focused program, caregivers and individuals living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia are encouraged to explore Making Memories, another program that OKCMOA offers through its outreach initiatives.
