Oklahoma City, OK (September 20, 2024) – RIVERSPORT will celebrate the grand opening of the nearly $1M expansion of the Trailhead Bike Park on Saturday, Oct. 4, with a ribbon “breaking” ceremony at 11 a.m. featuring professional BMX riders Chase Hawk and Aaron Ross. Yukon BMXers along with skateboarders from OKC Skateboard Lessons will also be demonstrating their riding skills on the newly expanded trails.
The expanded Trailhead Bike Park includes new and revamped trails, a Thunder OKC branded trail feature, the Wheelhouse coffee stop, and a unique elevated trail running across the rooftop of the park’s repurposed shipping containers.
“We’re opening this for everyone on wheels to enjoy,” executive director Mike Knopp said. “Bikes, skateboards, one wheels – you’ll find them all on the trails. We have areas for both novice and experience riders, so it’s going to be a great place to learn.”
The addition of numerous trees for shade, a community garden, an outdoor classroom area and public restrooms are expected to make the park a gathering place for the outdoor community. The Trailhead Bike Park will also serve as a hub for the Greenway River Trails providing access to an 80-mile loop around Oklahoma City.
At the Ribbon Cutting – Extreme Demos
RIVERSPORT executive director Mike Knopp will speak at the event along with representatives from sponsoring organizations who provided funding for the expansion including the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET). Representatives from the OKC Black Alumni Coalition and the Native American communities will be on hand to recognize the history of the area once known as Walnut Grove.
Extreme demos will be provided by Chase Hawk and Aaron Ross.

The Bike Park features a mountain bike skills course, the largest Velosolutions Pump Track in the U.S., and the Momentum Pump Track, a fiberglass mountain bike/BMX course for novice riders.
The grand opening will continue with a full day of activities on Saturday, Oct. 5 with REI, TSET and OKC Skateboard lessons.
The project was funded with grants from the Oklahoma Recreational Trails Program, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, and anonymous donors. Allford Hall Monaghan Morris as the designer and Burnett Construction as the general contractor.
