The New Year is a time for resolutions, and in Oklahoma City, diverse workout options make it easy to focus on fitness all year long. With a wide array of gyms and workout facilities, plus a vast park system and miles of urban trails, there’s no shortage of fitness inspiration, no matter the season or the resolution.

Outdoor Activities

Trails for Walking, Running & Biking

With 90 miles of non-motorized urban trails, travelers are never far from their next OKC adventure. City-wide, 10 interconnected trails wind through beautiful scenery, along lakes and rivers and into various districts, providing ample options for cycling, jogging or leisurely exploring.

At nearly 10 miles, the Bert Cooper Trail surrounding Lake Hefner is among the city’s largest. It’s also one of the most striking, with views and vantage points of the massive reservoir and its iconic lighthouse. Just to the north of the lake, extend your stroll in Bluff Creek Park, a wooded oasis with paved and dirt trails, plus a picnic pavilion and playground.

Further south, the Oklahoma River Trails extend for 13 miles, connecting districts like Stockyards City, the Wheeler District and Bricktown (with a recently completed extension that goes through the Boathouse District towards Horizons District).

Parks & Outdoor Fitness Spaces

Between the trails, OKC’s expansive parks make for pastoral detours. One such park is the 70-acre Scissortail Park, which connects the shimmering skyline with the Oklahoma River. Split into north and south sections, linked via the Skydance Bridge, the beautifully landscaped green space contains all outdoor activities, including pickleball courts, playgrounds, paddle boats and paved pathways. The park also hosts free fitness classes from spring through fall, like Zumba lessons, yoga at the farmers market and a walking club.

Just north of Scissortail, Myriad Botanical Gardens offers serenity all its own. Amidst the lush park, where trees soar upward toward the nearby Devon Tower, visitors can partake in periodic free yoga classes on the lawn and other recurring fitness events, like Zumba and sound baths.

Next to Lake Overholser, Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge is a wetland wonderland featuring 1,000 acres of hardwood forest and marsh. It features trails for hiking and cycling and rentals of kayaks and canoes.

Golf

Ready to tee off? Lake Hefner Golf Club, with two different courses, is a more challenging outing set against a majestic, shore-lined backdrop. Two more championship courses await at Lincoln Park Golf Course, while the south side’s Earlywine Golf Club winds its way past creeks, lakes and ponds in a beautiful, natural setting.

For something a little leisurely, check out Topgolf in Chisholm Creek. A driving range that combines sports with entertainment, the multi-level venue boasts lounge-style seating, full food and beverage service and a variety of fun golf games for each experience level.

Fitness Studios & Gyms

Yoga Studios

In addition to recurring outdoor classes, OKC yoga studios provide year-round sanctuary for those looking to stretch, recharge, or try something new. Whether it’s your first time, or your 50th, you’ll fit right in at 405 Yoga, a friendly and inclusive studio in Automobile Alley that hosts classes for all experience levels.

This Land Yoga, in the Paseo Arts District, is another community cornerstone, and a welcoming haven for beginners and seasoned yogis alike. Nourishing the mind, body, and spirit, attendees will find all kinds of classes to try, from vinyasa flow to yin yoga.

YogaLAB, a pay-it-forward, donation-based studio, adds a unique twist to OKC’s yoga scene. Rooted in generosity and community, YogaLAB invites participants to contribute what they can while enjoying a variety of classes aimed at fostering balance, strength and mindfulness.

Full-Service Gyms

Gyms in OKC are as prolific as parks, making it easy to maintain fitness regimens—or try something new—while on vacation. Anytime Fitness, with locations across the city, provides 24-hour access and security, with equipment ranging from treadmills and rowing machines to dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands and more.

In the Wheeler District, FIIT Fitness Studio is a friendly space with something for everyone, from high-intensity interval training to classes designed to strengthen the core and back. Or, for a more customized approach, in a more intimate setting, check out Don’s Do Fitness, offering personal training, aerobics, and boxing in a homey setting.

Unique Fitness Experiences

Water Activities at RIVERSPORT Adventures

In the Boathouse District, action-packed fun takes many forms at RIVERSPORT OKC, including state-of-the-art whitewater rafting and tubing facilities, surfing simulators and even indoor skiing. A six-story Sky Trail offers a climbing course and river-spanning zip line for those looking to stay dry.

Indoor Rock Climbing

Climbing enthusiasts have lots of options, too, with indoor rock-climbing destinations like Threshold Climbing. The home-grown brand, with a massive gym on the northwest side, is designed for seasoned climbers and first-timers with day passes, memberships, private lessons and recurring events.

Just south of Bricktown, The Silos is hard to miss. Former grain silos, the 90-foot-tall climbing gym affords a unique rock-climbing experience, both indoors and out.

Skate Parks

Mat Hoffman Action Sports Park is the ultimate skate park destination in OKC for rollerblading, skateboarding and BMX. Spanning 26,000 square feet, it’s the largest skate park in the state, with a plethora of challenging features, like an 11-foot half pipe and a 10-foot over-vert ramp. At Lake Hefner, Stars and Stripes Skatepark offers a smaller, more kid-friendly environment, with rails and ramps suited for newcomers.

Wellness & Recovery

OKC spas and saunas provide their own oases of wellness. Locations run the gamut in terms of style and setting, including the elegant ambience at the Omni Hotel’s Mokara Spa, where services include pedicures, massages and facials. At The Float Spa at Classen Curve, guests can immerse themselves in sensory deprivation chambers, floating atop salt water to achieve a sense of calm and mental clarity. For something steamier, visit one of OKC’s two Scandinavian-style Udånder spas, where options include Finnish dry saunas, soaking tubs, and aromatherapy rooms.

For a different kind of sauna treatment, Fit Spa is known for detoxifying infrared treatments, using heat to penetrate muscles and tissues, to sweat out neurotoxins. On the other side of the thermostat, Restore Hyper Wellness offers cryotherapy, safely exposing your body to sub-zero temperatures for short periods of time to reduce stress and pain and boost mood and energy.

Whatever your fitness fancy, be it a jog on a trail, a zip line, a climbing wall or a yoga studio, Oklahoma City has something for every workout level, every interest, and every traveler, making it easy—and fun—to stick to resolutions while on vacation, all while exploring the city.
