Grab your honey and step out on a summer date! OKC is full of great date options, from the tried-and-true to the downright adventurous.
Go ‘glamping’ at Orr Family Farm. What’s glamping? Think camping, but in fancied up accommodations. It’s a posh-yet-outdoorsy overnight experience. Spend the night in an air-conditioned Conestoga wagon or teepee, complete with luxuries and creature comforts including a complimentary central campfire, s’mores and coffee, access to a swim spa, campfire dinners ($10 per person), night access to activities like jumping pillows, corn hole, giant chess and checkers, barnyard ball zone, wall ball, farmers golf, tether ball, sand box, low ground ropes course, animal area and animal feeding.
Ride the Ferris Wheel in OKC’s Wheeler District. This 100-foot-tall Ferris Wheel was a fixture of California’s Santa Monica Pier for decades. It’s just $6 per ride and is open every day except Monday. Afterward, head over to The Big Friendly brewery and restaurant or Taco Nation, both in the Wheeler neighborhood.
Indulge in a couples’ massage and follow it up with an elegant meal. Mokara Spa inside the Omni Hotel & Resort offers 50- or 80-minute couples’ massages. Its luxe location lends itself to adding a gourmet meal or even an overnight stay-cation at the Omni. If you love a great steak, Bob's Steak & Chop House, also within the hotel, is perfect. Before dinner, stop off at the sophisticated Basin Bar for a mocktail or martini. The best thing about this posh date idea? Once you park your car, you can forget driving for your stay. It’s all right there.
Enjoy a Cocktail Cruise on the Oklahoma River. They’re available on Friday and Saturday nights, June through August and tickets are $20 per person. Once onboard, you’ll find a climate-controlled cabin with a full bar and concessions available for purchase. You’ll see OKC from a new perspective, relaxing and enjoying views of the Boathouse District, the Wheeler Ferris Wheel and maybe even a glorious Oklahoma sunset.
Keep it simple. Pack up a picnic and take in a free outdoor concert in the park, or just go for a walk together. Throughout the summer, in June, July and August, Arts Council OKC brings a variety of free, live musical performances to Myriad Botanical Gardens every Sunday starting at 7:30 p.m. Martin Nature Park is another terrific place to enjoy a day date with a picnic and a stroll along its many walking trails. Oklahoma City is also home to more than 170 parks in neighborhoods and alongside lakes and rivers. Choose a new park each week and enjoy a full season of picnic dates.
Embrace the tried and true: dinner and a movie. It’s the classic American date night. Enjoy a great meal, stare into each other’s eyes and follow it up with an evening holding hands in a dark, cozy movie theater. Or, make it a one-stop date – try Flix Brewhouse for a wide variety of burgers, Buffalo mac ‘n’ cheese, beer/wine/cocktails, decadent desserts and even all-day breakfast.
Sweets for your sweetie. Indulge in a magnificent, hand-crafted ice cream creation from one of OKC’s many small-batch, artisanal ice cream shops like Perets, Boom Town Creamery, Roxy’s Ice Cream Social, Capitals Ice Cream or Domenico Coffee & Dessert Bar, whose All In Sundae is 25 scoops of ice cream covered in cookies, candies, sauces, fruit, lollipops and more. Rather have a cupcake? Green Goodies in Classen Curve has got you covered.
Go Retro. Nothing says romance like a classic drive-in movie. Step back into time with your sweetheart and partake in the 1950’s nostalgia when you two head to Winchester Theater to grab a blanket and cuddle together while watching their drive-in movie. Don’t forget the buttery popcorn because it's the perfect snack to share while your eyes are glued on the outdoor big screen. Not feeling up for sitting inside a car? No worries. Just hop out and cozy up on the tailgate of your truck for date night.
